About Me
"One Heart Creating Art" is the best way to summarize my thoughts and feelings about the artwork I create. It truly is an offering from my heart and an expression of my truest passion. It wasn't until I was expecting my first child, my daughter Ellie, that I realized this truth, "creating art for children is my heart's calling". Wanting to create a unique nursery for Ellie, I decided to fill her room with paintings created especially for her. The result was an experience of my deepest inspiration and greatest joy. Before she was born she had 9 original paintings of her own.
I was born with a natural love for art and drawing, although never dreamed of a career as an artist. As an adult I tucked my love of art away, deep inside myself, where sadly I forgot it and followed a more traditional avenue for a career. I earned a B.S. in Management/Industrial Engineering and an MBA in my home state of Massachusetts and worked in various management positions for some of the world's largest companies.
It wasn't until I moved to Georgia and registered for art class that I discovered joy in painting. There I studied for 6 years with a naturally gifted teacher, Elizabeth Grimes. She taught me how to paint using acrylics and oils, starting with the basics of mixing colors, shading, blending and highlighting. Elizabeth taught how to blend and highlight acrylic paints in such a way that paintings look like oils when done. Elizabeth's art class was a journey that took me back to my heart's true passion. As I completed paintings for my home I was learning technique and when I created paintings for my daughter, technique met passion and my truest inspiration was revealed to me.
The next chapter unfolded upon our move to Florida. Ellie and I were guided to a local art gallery where I met the owner, Velma Daniels. She brought my art before her board of directors where I was voted in as a member to her gallery. With that, I decided to offer my artwork to the world in a grander way, which brings me to my website, www.kidsartbylisa.com.
Rediscovering this hidden joy has been an adventure that I am most grateful to have traveled. My deepest hope is that you are touched by the work presented here. It truly is a gift from my heart.
